Why do we have a privacy policy? 

At Obiter Marketing Inc, we build relationships with our customers based on trust and respect and this includes our commitment to being accountable and complying with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) to keep personal information safe. Your personal information is a valued asset and we want you to know that we will treat it that way.

PIPA sets rules on how private sector organizations collect, use and disclose personal information. Personal information is defined as any information that can be used to identify someone either by itself or in combination with other information.


The purpose of this policy is to inform you of:

  • our information handling practices;
  • the reasons for these practices;
  • safeguards in place to protect your information; and
  • your rights to your personal information, when it is under our custody and control.

 

Since our clients and potential clients are businesses, most of the information we collect is business information which under PIPA is not considered to be personal information. However, we recognize that some clients, potential clients and sole proprietors may provide us with personal information used for business purposes or use personal devices when accessing our website. In these cases, we comply with PIPA requirements to collect personal information only for reasonable business purposes.

 

Collecting Personal Information

We collect information about users of our website via our website (obitermarketing.com). For each visitor, we collect the following information: 

  • Log information, including your browser type, language, access times, pages viewed, IP address, approximate geographic location, entry webpage, and the referring website address.
  • Device information, including the type of device you use, hardware model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information. 
  • Collected by third and first party cookies and similar technologies, including (but not limited to) those used by Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel. These tools collect information sent by your browser about the web pages you visit, your browser add-ons, and other information that assists us in improving this website and the services and content we offer. Personal Information We Collect When You Register for Our Services

If you provide personal information to register for our services, we collect personal information from you. Without limitation, these services include following us on social media, requesting access to a gated document, requesting or scheduling or attending a consultation with us, requesting a strategy document, or requesting the provision of our services or advice. The personal information we collect at this stage may include: 

  • Your first and last name. 
  • Your email address. 
  • The company you work for and its website address. 

 

Personal Information We Collect When You Engage With Obiter Marketing on Social Media

We may offer social sharing, RSS feed functionality, and other integrated tools on our website to allow you to share the content on our website with third-party social media platforms, including without limitation Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Instagram. These third-party social media platforms may share certain information with us if you choose to use the social sharing functionality. 

Any interactions between Obiter Marketing Inc and you on social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, are subject to your initial consent via the social media platform’s application or website, as well as the prevailing terms and conditions of the social media platform. Where there is no overlap between the terms of the social media platform and Obiter Marketing Inc’s Terms of Use or Privacy Policy, Obiter Marketing Inc’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy should be read as being in addition to that platform’s terms.

If you do not wish to consent to the collection of your personal email address and/or name, you may choose to simply not provide us with this data.

If you do not wish to consent to the cookies from our use of Google Analytics, please do not use the website at www.obitermarketing.com.

 

How We Use Your Information: 
If we collect your personal information, we will use the information for the following purposes:

  • The provision of consulting services. 
  • The provision of marketing services. 
  • Providing you with information and/or our opinions. 
  • Direct marketing for our services. You always have the right to unsubscribe from any marketing contact we may have with you. A link will be provided in any marketing email with the option to unsubscribe. Otherwise, you can email us at info@obitermarketing.com. 
  • Improving our website and service offering. 
  • Finding your personal profile and/or your company’s profile on social media. 

If we want to use your information for a new purpose, we will ask for and receive consent from you before using it, unless we are required to do otherwise by law.

We may need to retain certain information for longer periods such as record-keeping / reporting in accordance with applicable law or for other legitimate reasons like enforcement of legal rights, fraud prevention, etc. Residual anonymous information and aggregate information, neither of which identifies you (directly or indirectly), may be stored indefinitely.

Under PIPA, individuals maintain rights to their own personal information when it is held under the custody or control of an organization.

Accessing Your Personal Information

If you wish to access your own personal information, you must submit the request in writing and verify your identity. Please note that if a large volume of personal information is involved, a reasonable fee may be charged.

Correcting Your Personal Information

Obiter Marketing Inc will do its best to ensure that your personal information is correct and kept current. If your personal information changes, please inform us of the change in writing with any details you feel are necessary. Also, if your personal information is incorrect, then please notify us of the correct information. For your protection, we will verify your identity before making any corrections and consider any risks related to the correction.

Under PIPA, we are obligated to respond within thirty (30) days of receiving your privacy request, question, concern or complaint.

If you have not heard from us during this timeframe or you are unsatisfied with our response within thirty (30) days of receiving it, you may contact the Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (OIPC) to make a complaint.
